The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Another quite hectic week around The Presbytery . . . .
Fr D was taken out to lunch after Mass on Sunday morning by a parishioner from one of his previous parishes. The young man concerned was one of Fr D’s former confirmation candidates and travelled as a pilgrim with the diocese and Fr D to the World Youth Day in Cologne. Entering the world of finance he has been stationed in both America and Hong Kong before coming back to ‘head office’ as the Covid lock-down began. He brought his fiancé along with him (who Fr D had met before) as they wanted to discuss with him their marriage plans. Two years ago Fr D was the celebrant at his younger sister’s wedding. Fr D was delighted to be asked to help them with their plans and is looking forward to the ‘big day.’
During Bank Holiday Monday Fr D was completing various aspects of the paperwork that he was going to need for his trip to Rome for the Canon Law Society Conference. So far the plane’s departure time has been changed twice and the airport moved from Gatwick to Heathrow! He now hopes that everything is settled!
On Wednesday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D did not have to rush down to Brighton as usual because his secretary was on holiday and there would have been no point in going down. In the evening he was meeting with this year’s Confirmation candidates for a session on Mary in the life of the Church.
On Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was busy doing his parts of the next couple of newsletters and authorising some payments from our bank account to various suppliers - most of the time this is now done through internet banking (our accountant prepares everything and then Fr D logs on and authorises the payments to be made), occasionally a good old fashioned cheque book is used! During the day works were continuing in the car park on the new ticket machine.
On Saturday morning, there being no First Eucharist session for our candidates this year Fr D was able to see another young couple who are planning their marriage; in this instance the bride was brought up in the Parish and wants to celebrate her wedding here. This constitutes a meaningful connection so Fr D is happy this should take place in the Sacred Heart when the time comes; the couple have also got in early so that they can give the required twelve months notice before the ‘big day’ . . . . .
