The Sacred Heart Parish is committed to the Safeguarding policies of the Catholic Church in England and Wales; to protect children and vulnerable adults from neglect, physical, emotional and sexual abuse and to promote a safe environment for them.
This commitment flows from the fact that we are all made in the image of God and the common belief of the Church in the dignity and uniqueness of every human life.
We start from the principle that each child has the right to experience the highest level of care and protection, love, encouragement and respect that we can give.
We will liaise closely with the statutory agencies to ensure that any allegations of abuse that may occur are promptly reported and properly dealt with, victims supported and perpetrators held to account. It is the policy of the Parish that all those who work with children and vulnerable adults are officially checked and cleared through the national Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Mark Hillas is appointed as our Safeguarding Representative. her details are provided below, should you wish to contact her about any issue concerned with Safeguarding at Sacred Heart or our wider community. We take all concerns seriously and have processes in place to best handle them.
The Catholic Safeguarding Advisory Service (CSAS) emphasises that Safeguarding goes to the very heart of the ministry and mission of our Catholic Church. Safeguarding is about nurturing wellbeing, helping individuals realise their potential and of course it is about ensuring everyone is safe and protected from harm and abuse.
The Catholic Church through the NCSC conducts an annual National survey centred around the subject of best practice with regards to Safeguarding. The 2018 report findings provide a transparent insight into Safeguarding matters and how they are measured and remedied . The report can be seen by following the link below .
The Sacred Heart Parish has access to the Catholic EduCare programme. This brings to our Community and the wider church an e-learning package which raises awareness throughout the Catholic Community in England and Wales. The e-learning package is part of the Church’s commitment to safeguarding, and is available to all members of the Catholic community.
