The Bartimaeus Project was launched earlier this year by a group of our diocesan parish priests. It aims to help us understand our faith more deeply - the title recalls the plea of the blind Bartimaeus: “Lord that I might see.”
The next group of four sessions reflects on the relationship between faith, reason, and science.
All sessions take place on Thursday evenings 19.30 - 21.30.
After a short period of prayer, the speaker addresses a live audience in his own parish, with each presentation and discussion also being livestreamed via Zoom to people elsewhere in the diocese.
Topics this season, on the relationship of faith and reason are:
(1) Why Seeing Isn’t Believing: What Sort of a Thing is Faith? (29th Sept.)
(2) Why Faith Isn’t a Leap in the Dark: How Faith and Reason go together (6th Oct.)
(3) Why Dawkins is Wrong: Understanding the Complementarity of Science and Faith (13th Oct.)
(4) Why Dawkins is Wrong Again: How Science actually Points us to God (20th Oct.)
After each talk there is an opportunity for discussion, followed by an opportunity for all involved to ask the speaker questions.
People can join individually, or gather a small group somewhere, forming a ready-made discussion group.
