The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Lots happening during this week at The Presbytery . . . . .
After three weeks of announcements both at Mass and in the newsletter the applications for this year’s Confirmation Programme closed on Sunday evening with six younger members of our community asking to find out more about this great sacrament. Things are slightly different this year as there is a certain amount of ‘catch-up’ from the past two years of Covid. Just into the New Year Bishop Richard announced the dates for all the Confirmation celebrations this year (usually two or three per Deanery); the date for our Deanery is fixed as 9 th July and will take place at St Joseph’s Church, Epsom.
On Tuesday after Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Fr D had a meeting to discuss the recent discussions concerning the Synod on the Church that Pope Francis has called over the next two years. In the afternoon he was able to spend some time working ahead with the preparation of his Sunday homilies (he’s almost run out!). Having not been down to Bishop’s House the week before on Wednesday after Morning Prayer and the celebration of Mass Fr D took off in his car to see what his ‘in tray’ had waiting for him. During his time at the Tribunal Office he was able to review all of his current marriage cases to check that there were no hold ups that were down to him and to sign some decrees moving things along. The first applications for 2022 are starting to come in and will be assessed to see if they might be cases that could be taken up.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday morning Fr D was making phone calls and changing things around in his diary as the engineers fitting the new Air Source Heat Pump in The Presbytery had left a message on the answerphone on Wednesday afternoon to say that they wanted to start a week early (next Monday 7th). This now means that the new heat pump and the new solar panels are scheduled to be fitted in the same week; not ideal in terms of the amount of time it will take out of his week but it will be done and dusted and the benefits can be reaped.
On Friday Fr D prepared the final questions for the upcoming Parish Quiz Night (1 st March) which he hopes will be the first event in getting back to ‘normal service’ as far as Parish Social events go. Tickets go on sale this weekend after Mass and from the Parish Office during the week . . . . . . .
