The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Once again large amounts of coming and going this week at The Presbytery . . . .
After the completion of the Solar Panel project last week Fr D has been looking at his phone a lot as he appreciates just how much FREE electricity the system is producing (even in the winter!). It does not seem to require full sun in order to operate, it depends much more on UV sunlight; the app on Fr D’s phone shows a very simple diagram which tells him how much electricity the house is using, how much electricity the solar panels are making, what is going in or out of the battery storage units, and then how much (if any) electricity is coming off the national grid.
Throughout the rest of the week the heat pump engineers have been working really hard to fit the replacement system for the gas boiler. By the end of play on Monday there was a new hot water tank in position in the loft and the old one from the airing cupboard had been removed and adjustments made to the piping to take account of the new system. The gas boiler was still controlling the heating but, for the time being, the new immersion heater, attached to the hot water tank, was providing the hot water.
On Tuesday morning when he got up Fr D’s shower was not working! Fortunately the one in the guest bathroom was working, so he didn’t get too grumpy! The reason for the shower not working was that the new system works on high pressure and the pump supplying Fr D’s shower is only for low pressure and the replacement was on order. The rest of the day the workmen were fixing the heat pump to the new pipework leading in to the house.
Wednesday morning, after Fr D came in from Morning Prayer and Mass, things began to get exciting as the new controls were being mounted in the downstairs hallway of the house - replacing the old analogue thermostat that used to be there. Later in the day the whole system was sealed and a pressure flush put through the system to remove any accumulated rust and debris, Fr D was quite surprised at what actually came out in the flush through! By the time that the engineers left on Wednesday evening all that was left was the replacement of the pump for Fr D’s shower, some extra lagging in the loft, and some drainage pipework around the heat pump (to take any condensate away to a drain).
Although Fr D was not expecting them on Thursday morning there was a very familiar knock on the front door at 07.30 as the workmen came to complete the lagging and balance the system . . . . . .
