The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Progress continues apace with the decorations in the church - this week has seen the completion of the sanctuary area, the whole of the righthand side of the church, the rear walls, and the balcony facia area. The rather useless old phosphorous lights that were under the balcony area have been removed and new, very efficient LED units have been obtained to replace them. It was also discovered that what Fr D thought were air vents in the under-balcony area were in fact speakers (who knows when they last worked?); Fr D will speak to the sound engineers next time they are in to see if they can be re-instated into the new system. Next week the decorators will be moving into the ‘glass chapel’ to work on the ceiling, walls, windows and wood panels - then it will be onto the last leg, the narthex area.
Tuesday after celebrating Mass Fr D was sourcing new lighting units for under the balcony area in the church before having to go off to a very special birthday reception. When he got back in the evening he was occupied in preparations for a virtual meeting he was due to attend on Wednesday.
Fr D had very little time after celebrating Mass in the morning before the start of an all-day Zoom meeting with the Canon Law Society of Great Britain and Ireland. If it had not been for the Covid pandemic (and the ensuing restrictions) Fr D would have flown to Ireland on Sunday afternoon ready for the Annual Conference of the Canon Law Society, this year in Galway. Since this could not take place a day’s ‘virtual conference’ had been organised with a guest speaker ‘beaming in’ from Rome, the head of the Pontifical Council for Child Protection. He gave a very good presentation on the subject of Child Protection and the Revision of Penal Law in the Code of Canon Law. Unfortunately when it came to the ‘questions and comments’ period after the presentation the ‘gremlins’ managed to get into the virtual system at the Rome end of things and the system started buffering . . . . .
After celebrating Mass on Thursday morning Fr D was quickly in his car to get down to the Tribunal Office in Brighton. Whilst there he was trying to look up the flights for next year’s Canon Law Conference in Rome but realised that he’d have to leave booking for another month before the flights were available on the website. As it is going to be in Rome Fr D and another priest will stay on afterwards for the weekend to take advantage of some culture, wine and food . . . . .
