The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A quite hectic week around The Presbytery this time . . . . .
At the 11.00 Mass last Sunday Fr D was delighted to present to the Parish community those younger members of our congregation who are now preparing to receive the Lord for the first time in Holy Communion in June. Having completed their course of preparation they all celebrated the sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas and now are moving on to prepare for their first celebration of the Eucharist. At the 11.00 Mass they (and their parents) undertook to prepare themselves for this great moment in their life of faith and received their workbooks. The preparation of younger members of our congregation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist has moved on substantially in the past three years. Parents are now asked to ‘make good’ on the promises that they made at their child’s baptism to be both the first and best teachers of their child in the ways of faith. To this end for each section of the course the parents first meet with Fr D (on Tuesday evenings) to learn what the children will be looking at their session (Saturday mornings); then at the children’s sessions they work with their child on the subject matter in their workbooks. After this session there is usually a celebration concerning that part of the Mass which they have learnt about at one of our weekend Masses.
On Wednesday, after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was off to Crawley as usual to see what ‘joys’ were waiting for him in his ‘in-tray’ at the Tribunal. When he had finished at his desk he moved to another part of the offices to attend some training being offered by the diocese to priests concerning LGBTQ+ issues (this is also going to be the subject matter of an ‘In-Service’ course later in May).
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was back down at Crawley, working on another of his cases that is approaching the time for judgement. In the evening he met with three families who began their preparations for Infant Baptism in the coming months. One couple were returning with their second child and were able to share some experience with the other two (first time) families.
It seems as if Fr D has been waiting for a parcel to be delivered all week, with a whole succession of emails informing him of ‘progress.’ Despite waiting in on Monday and Tuesday, only to be sent an email saying that they tried but couldn’t manage to deliver; he told them that the next opportunity would be Friday . . . .
