The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very busy week around and about ‘The Presbytery,’ as Fr D started to make sure that everything was in place to celebrate our coming Holy Week . . . . . At the beginning of last week all the parishes of the diocese received a nine-page set of instructions as to how to celebrate Holy Week (Fr D was heard to say that he didn’t know how he had managed to celebrate Holy Week the previous thirty-three years?). Obviously, due to the Coronavirus pandemic some parts of the Holy Week liturgies will need to take account of the present social distancing rules; to this end:
Passion (Palm) Sunday - there will not be Palms or a procession at the beginning of Mass, the Gospel will not be proclaimed with several voices and will be the shortened version (no ‘Crowd’ parts this year), Palms will only be available (one each) as parishioners leave Mass after they have received Holy Communion.
Holy Thursday - there will be no procession of the new Holy Oils at the beginning of Mass, there will be no Washing of the Disciples Feet at the Gospel, there will be no Watching at the Altar of Repose (although the Blessed Sacrament will be left on the main altar for ‘Virtual Watching’ until 23.00 via the Parish Website [www.sacredheartcobham.org.uk]).
Good Friday - the Gospel will not be proclaimed with several voices (again no ‘Crowd’ parts this year), individual ‘Veneration of the Cross’ will not be possible but all parishioners together will kneel, the annual collection for the ‘Upkeep of the Holy Places in Jerusalem’ will be taken as parishioners leave the church after they have received Holy Communion.
Easter Vigil - there will be no preparation of the Easter Candle, no Easter fire, no people’s candles at the ‘Renewal of Baptismal Promises,’ and the Easter Collection will be taken as parishioners leave Mass after they have received Holy Communion.
We are still looking for two more readers for the Easter Vigil - please get in contact with the Parish Office before Wednesday.
Easter Sunday - there will be no people’s candles at the ‘Renewal of Baptismal Promises,’ and the Easter Collection will be taken as parishioners leave Mass after they have received Holy Communion.
