Beginning in the week after Easter the Sound Engineers will be moving into the church in order to complete all the necessary works for the new sound system. The present system has for some time now (over two years) been unreliable due to its age (now thirty years). The new system will involve four new, state of the art, column speakers; a new amplifier; a new loop system amplifier; a new lectern microphone; a new wireless microphone; a new wireless handheld microphone; an automatic mixer unit to control the microphones; a mixer unit for the music group; a CD/ multimedia player/recorder (we can once again have the bishop’s Pastoral Letters put through the system!); and the facility to use a digital hymnal when our musicians are not available. These works will take about ten weekdays. In the second week after Easter the decorators will return to the church to begin work on all the lower levels (below the pelmet) of the building, the narthex and the glass chapel. These works are more complicated than the ‘upper works’ completed last summer as most of the work will entail painting by brush not roller and will require three coats. In order to facilitate all these works our weekday Masses will be celebrated in the St Francis’ Room on the first floor of the Parish Centre for at least the whole of April. This will enable the best use of time for the painters/engineers to get things done as quick and as cost efficient as possible. Should the works finish earlier than the end of April we will move back into the church. These arrangements will not affect our weekend Masses.
