The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A reasonably quiet week around The Presbytery as Fr D continues to recover from his chest infection and tries to get his voice back to normal . . . .
Once again Fr D was very grateful to Fr John Horn for being able to celebrate the 11.00 Mass on Sunday - having celebrated the 18.00 and 09.00 Masses Fr D knew that he didn’t have the voice left to manage the 11.00 satisfactorily (we are very lucky to have retired priests prepared to offer their help to us when occasion demands). Fr D’s voice had sufficiently recovered in the afternoon to be able (with adaptation) to celebrate Lenten Evening Prayer and Benediction.
Monday Fr D had an appointment at the Heath Centre and came away less four bottles of blood and with another prescription for antibiotics; they were happy that things were ‘working through.’ During the day the Fire Inspectors worked their way through the properties to give us our latest fire certificate - the only works were the batteries in the two fire control boxes which needed renewing.
After Mass and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D was preparing a requiem for a family in the parish to take place on Tuesday 5th March. He also continued working on the booklet for the Triduum at the end of Lent and some more weekday homilies for Lent (hoping that he’ll get to use them when his voice is strong enough!).
Having celebrated Mass on Wednesday Fr D continued working on the upcoming requiem and a few more weekday homilies. He has also practised reading aloud to try and strengthen his voice.
Thursday, after celebrating Mass, Fr D did not go down to the Diocesan Offices in Crawley as he normally would in order to try and rest his voice. In the evening he met with a young family who are preparing for their child’s baptism on Easter Sunday.
Friday after Mass, Fr D had several appointments culminating in meeting with the family getting ready for a requiem to finalise the arrangements.
Throughout the week Fr D feels that the pressure on his chest has reduced greatly and that the coughing is beginning to die down. This has meant that his throat is not nearly as raw as the past couple of weeks and there is some strength returning to his voice . . . .
