The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Once again, a slightly slower week around The Presbytery with many parishioners away on holiday. This will come to an end with returns this weekend for the start of the schools Autumn Term . . . . .
Last weekend we had the pleasure of Fr Robert Sowa leading our liturgies and telling us of the work of the Xaverian Missionaries. This was our annual Overseas Mission Appeal which all parishes have at some point during the year. Fr D was away with friends for the weekend (as a result of a week at Hosanna House in Lourdes not ‘coming off’ this time around).
On Monday Fr D was visiting one of his friends (a priest) for lunch. They have not managed to do this in quite a while as the friend has cancer and is still shielding as he has no immune system due to his treatment. The pair of them grew up together from the age of eight and even though the cancer means that they cannot see each other as much as they would like they are on the phone two or three times a week.
Following Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday, Fr D went off to the diocesan offices in Crawley where he was able to ‘write up’ the sentence for the annulment case that he had adjudicated along with two other associate judges the previous Friday. Subject to any appeal in the next fifteen days the parties in the case will now be able to marry in the Catholic Church subject to the normal requirements. When he returned home in the late afternoon Fr D got started on his parts of the newsletter for the next weekend.
After celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D had set some time aside to review the telecoms contracts that the Parish has (three). He has for some years set aside about half a day to check what the present accounts are offering and then looking at the websites concerned to see if the accounts still suit our needs and are cost effective. This time around we are already looking at bringing two of the accounts together with physical changes here between the Presbytery and the Parish Office thus cutting out one account altogether. Once this has been done and works well we will look to change the present provider for one of the other business account providers that the diocesan IT man promotes.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday the engineer that looks after our electrical, fire, and health and safety obligations was carrying out one of his six monthly reviews around the Parish plant . . . . . .
