The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Things have been quite hectic over the past week at The Presbytery with several projects and preparations for the Christmas festivities all hitting at once . . . .
Last Sunday afternoon the second of our Advent Evening Prayer & Benediction services took place; giving parishioners a chance to slip away from all the commercial preparations for the season and to spend a little time in quiet prayer with the Lord.
On Tuesday, after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament the much awaited new floor covering for The Presbytery kitchen was being laid. This was originally ordered nearly two years ago (just before Covid hit) but events overtook and it was delayed. Then the selection that Fr D had made was no longer available after the two years so he had to choose again - this actually turned out to be a good thing because the new choice had a 25 year warranty rather than 10 years; the floor man was also able to do it for the same price as the original quote! Whilst the fitting was taking place Fr D was in his office taking part in a Deanery Meeting via Zoom. Just before lunch a new freezer for the Parish Centre kitchen was delivered and left in-situ for the gases to settle before being turned on in the evening.
On Wednesday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was in the Reconciliation Room to offering extra ‘slots’ before Christmas. Around lunchtime there was a delivery of two big parcels which contained floor-standing candelabra for use during benediction.
Once again on Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was back in the Reconciliation Room to help parishioners prepare spiritually for Christmas. In the afternoon Fr D was joining in with a meeting of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust (this time using Microsoft Teams!) which took nearly two and a half hours (good job that he made himself a pot of tea before it began!).
On Friday, after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was again in the Reconciliation Room before having tea with a parishioner from his Reigate days. He was then off to a Burial of Ashes service at Cobham Cemetery before going on to see one of his priest friends who is suffering from cancer and who has been shielding for almost two years now because he has no immune system (- this meant that Thursday evening Fr D was putting one of those wands down his throat to check he was ok to make the visit!). It was also Fr D’s birthday (Pope Francis’ too) so they had a very pleasant late lunch together in the afternoon . . . . . .
