The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Life has been getting busier once again around The Presbytery this week . . . .
Fr D has been very pleased with the way in which parishioners have been co-operating regarding our weekday Masses which are now being celebrated in the St Francis Room in the Parish Centre. Only once, so far, have there been more in the congregation than seats available! Celebrating the Mass outside of the church building means that the redecoration works can be accomplished more quickly than they would have been had we still been in the church, and this will help to reduce the bill somewhat (the contractors can work through from 08.00 to 16.00 each day without having to stop whilst Mass is celebrated). By Friday afternoon most of the left hand side-aisle and ceiling had been prepared and painted (three coats) with just the skirting boards left to do.
The engineers for the new sound system in the church have been crawling through the roof space above the church ceiling throughout the week, running cables to the appropriate points around the church for the new speakers. They are being very careful about the aesthetics of the building (which, in part, is why they were chosen to complete the works in the first place). By Thursday evening there were cables coming out of the ceiling and dropping to where the new speakers will be mounted.
Fr D was supposed to have gone down to the Tribunal Office in Hove this week but he received a message from Bishop’s House earlier in the week to say that his secretary’s son had tested positive for Covid and that she would not be in until he was better. This would have meant that several of the things that Fr D would have been taking care of could not have happened so he cancelled the trip down (he needed to get a few more homilies written for the next few weeks anyway!).
Fr D is getting increasingly frustrated at the slow pace of things getting back to normal as far as the covid restrictions placed on the Church are concerned. As far as he is able to ascertain there has been no proven transmission of Covid which has be found to have taken place in a Catholic church in the country. He would very much like to get proper congregational singing back on line at our weekend Masses but the rules at the present still say that only the music group is allowed to sing at Mass, we are still not allowed to give out hymn books or Mass books either! The light at the end of the tunnel is still too far off as far as he is concerned . . . . .
