The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A much busier week than Fr D was expecting . . . . .
Having returned from Lourdes Fr D was emptying all of his clothes from suitcases into the big white noisy boxes in the utility room throughout the weekend. He was also working on his homily for Sr Sadie’s requiem (he normally has at least a week to prepare things but the arrangements for Sr Sadie had been achieved very much more quickly than normal!).
On Sunday afternoon Fr D received Sr Sadie into the church with a Vigil Service along with members of her family from Scotland.
On Monday Fr D celebrated the requiem for Sr Sadie before her committal at Cobham cemetery and lunch with her family and the rest of the sisters.
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D began work on the newsletters for the next couple of weekends and his homilies during the week (he had dealt with several Sunday homilies before he went off to Lourdes). Fr D also started to think about the Christmas Bazaar Grand Draw Tickets (which the printers are asking about, in August!). In the evening all the energy expended in Lourdes suddenly took over and Fr D was in bed by 21.30! On Wednesday after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D jumped in the car to get down to the Tribunal Office in Crawley where he was scheduled to interview someone who was seeking an annulment to their marriage. The interview took quite some time and Fr D had a headache as he drove home after it was all completed. He just managed to get in on the very tail end of the sisters’ Garden Party!
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday morning Fr D decided that he was not going to go down to the Tribunal Office as he had more than enough to get on with on his desk (the pile just seems to keep getting higher and higher!). He also urgently needed to do some shopping as he had been emptying the fridge since getting home from Lourdes. In the afternoon he managed to get the newsletter completed and ready for Sarah to ‘do the necessary.’
On Friday Fr D did not celebrate Mass as he had a long-standing appointment to attend a cricket match at The Oval in London with a past parishioner; they try to attend a couple of matches together each year - this time they were watching Surrey vs Kent. When he got home on Friday evening Fr D was working on the Intercessions for Mass this weekend . . .
