The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
The week started off very quietly, as Fr D was having a ‘lazy day’ on Monday after the ‘high jinx’ of the Easter services, but got progressively busier as the week went on . . . .
Monday Fr D had a ‘lie-in’ and a very slow mid-morning breakfast as he read the newspaper. After going into the church to say some prayers from the Office he relaxed in his armchair and did some reading; inevitably he fell to sleep whilst reading and awoke in time to think about supper!
Tuesday was the first day of celebrating our weekday Mass in the St Francis room on the first floor of the Parish Centre. The Mass was well attended, with only two seats left unused, and all went well (Fr D was well pleased with the arrangements). In the afternoon Fr D was reading up on one of his marriage cases ready to start writing his decision up.
Once more morning Mass was in the Parish Centre on Wednesday (fewer people this time) and parishioners had got used to the order in which to come up for holy communion at the end of Mass before leaving. The ‘fogging’ machine for sanitising the seating afterwards was put to good use on the upholstered furniture (Fr D was very pleased that he had invested in one). In the afternoon Fr D was reading some proposed new governance documents for the Bosco Catholic Education Trust for which he is a trustee for the Bishop.
On Thursday after Mass the sound engineers arrived to begin the works that will replace our present church sound system with a state of the art modern system. Fr D was busy finding a key that would make them independent (not relying on Fr D being available) as regards getting in and out of the church. They have said that we will have a sound system at the weekends whilst the works are undertaken.
Friday after morning Mass Fr D had a couple of appointments to attend to before ‘checking in’ with the progress on the new sound system. All seems to be going according to plan at the moment.
On Monday the decorators are due to begin the works on the internal lower levels of the church: rubbing down, preparation and then (we think) three coats of paint. Unlike the upper levels last summer the works cannot be done with rollers and will require a lot of hand-painting . . . . . . .
