Some two years ago now the Parish Finance Committee were presented with the report of our latest Quinquennial Survey. This survey of our Parish plant is undertaken every five years and is a mandatory requirement of the diocese.
Several of the minor works that were recommended to be undertaken have been taking place since the report arrived and now the time has come to look at some of the more important works to be undertaken (nothing was reported as being extremely urgent). Fr Daryl, advised by the Finance Committee, has now taken the decision that we should start at the top and then work down, hence we are presently obtaining quotations for ‘spot works’ in several places on the main roofs of the church building. None of these are allowing water ingress at present and we are undertaking these works to make sure that they do not.
It is very likely that these initial works cannot be undertaken without the erection of scaffolding (which is where the real cost comes in), this being the case we will attempt to complete any ‘high level’ works (tiling, flashings, gutters, down-pipes, soffits and bargeboards) whilst we have the scaffolding up.
Obviously works such as these are going to incur considerable expense as we work to maintain our property so we will need to look to raising extra funds to facilitate things. One of the ways that will aid this is the introduction of a Parish Maintenance Fund Retiring Collection on a regular basis - we will also look to having some fundraising events (ideas welcome), and also receive any donations that parishioners might consider making. The first Retiring Collection (GiftAidable) will take place on the weekend of 24/25 June.
We realise that everyone is stretched financially in the present climate but would ask everyone to think hard about helping with this fundraising venture which will mean that less has to be spent than if things are put off to a later date. More news once the initial quotes for the work come in.
