The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Another full week around The Presbytery once more . . . . .
On Monday the electrician arrived on site to complete the five-yearly inspection of all our electrical installations. This inspection is a ‘condition precedent’ for our buildings insurance (most insurance claims by churches are for fires that have been caused by faulty electrical installations). A great deal of work was completed after the last inspection so Fr D was not expecting to have too much highlighted this time around.
On Tuesday evening Fr D was meeting with the parents of those children from the Parish who recently celebrated their First Eucharist with us. This was the last meeting that they will have as a group and it seemed a long time ago since their first meeting in September 2021! The last part of the Mass to be looked at was the Rite of Dismissal and leaving the building to go out to the world fulfilling the mission that Jesus’ gave to us.
Wednesday was, of course, a Holy Day of Obligation (Sts Peter & Paul) so Fr D did not have to go down to Bishop’s House in Brighton for his usual stint at the Marriage Tribunal. There were Masses in the Parish at 09.30 in the morning and 19.30 in the evening for the Holy Day. Having spent the best part of three days doing his inspection of the electrical systems in the house, church, and Parish Centre the electrician said that there were a few ‘small items’ that required work to be done. A formal report highlighting these and providing us with our certificates of compliance will come through in a couple of weeks. In the meantime Fr D has told him to go ahead with the works required.
On Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D did have to go down to Bishop’s House; he had some decrees to sign off and a few items to deal with in his ‘in tray.’
On Friday after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was originally expected to be down at Arundel Cathedral for the retirement Mass of the outgoing Schools Director of the Diocese. However, on Wednesday morning he received an email saying that this had been put back by a couple of weeks as the director had COVID. This ‘extra time’ that he wasn’t expecting allowed Fr D to begin work on a liturgy for the Trustees of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust for next Friday when he has an all-day meeting with them, finishing with the liturgy. Saturday morning Fr D met with those children who have recently celebrated their First Eucharist for their final session before they receive their Certificates at out 09.00 Mass this Sunday . . . . . . .
