The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A reasonably busy week in and around The Presbytery . . . . .
On Sunday evening Fr D, along with several parishioners, attended the annual Christian Unity Week service, this time at St Andrew’s Church. It was good to see that the Parish was well represented at this important event in the life of our local Christian communities. Fr D had wrapped himself up well, expecting to be in a very cold church building, but found that he was soon ‘stripping off layers’ as the building was very warm.
On Tuesday, after Morning Prayer, celebrating Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Fr D received an email from the engineers scheduled to fit new solar panels (having taken advantage of the Government’s and Surrey County Council’s subsidy offers) to arrange the fitting date. Fr D agreed to Wednesday 9th February as ‘Solar Day’ and was told that scaffolding would be raised in the Presbytery back garden a couple of days before to aid the fitting.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was not rushing down to Brighton as he normally does because his secretary had phoned the day before to say that there was absolutely nothing in his ‘In Tray’ and so didn’t have to attend. This was just as well as an email arrived asking him to get in touch with the company chosen to fit the new Air Source Heat Pump for the Presbytery. This project was again negotiated using a subsidy from the Government (Renewable Heart Source Incentive). The main unit was ordered back in October but, so far, has not arrived from Sweden. Because the system has to be commissioned before April and no word has been heard from the manufacturers it was suggested to Fr D that another unit from a different manufacturer be used instead; when he spoke with the engineers concerned he discovered that the new unit suggested was in fact a better more expensive unit, but that we will be charged the same price as the original! After a few more questions to ‘check things out’ Fr D was happy to accept the new unit. As this unit is already ‘in stock’ the fitting of the new heating system will take place in about three weeks time. Result! Fr D very much hopes that with the experience of at least two or three years use of the system in the Presbytery he will be able to make a much more informed decision when we have to think about the far bigger church heating system when the time comes. Our present church boiler relies upon gas and is over twenty years old so we do ned to be thinking about what to do (Gas, of course, is not replaceable after 2025).
