The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly quieter week at The Presbytery this time around . . . .
On Sunday afternoon Fr D put the finishing touches to a funeral service he was due to celebrate at Randall’s Park Crematorium on Tuesday.
Following Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday morning Fr D loaded up his car ready for the funeral in the afternoon before sitting down with Sarah to try and work out what was happening regarding this year’s Overseas Mission Appeal. This year it will be an appeal given by missionary sisters but Fr D has received letters from two different missionary societies claiming that Cobham are having them? A phone call to the Bishop’s Office didn’t help very much either so we are awaiting responses from the two societies (as Fr D says we are only having one appeal!).
After Morning Prayer and celebrating Mass on Wednesday morning Fr D was straight down to Bishop’s House in Brighton for his work at the Marriage Tribunal. When he got back in the evening Fr D just had time to get ready for the Parish Finance Committee meeting. At the meeting the team looked at the final figures for the last year and set a budget for the coming year. It was noted that over the past year we have experienced a drop in the weekly Offertory of roughly 20% (probably due to the Covid situation). The team also looked at the recent Quinquennial Buildings Survey and agreed a plan to address the issues raised over the next three years (we will need to try and do some extra fundraising to keep on top of the maintenance that needs to be undertaken). At the close of the meeting Fr D accepted the resignation of the long-time chair of the committee and appointed a new chair to take things forward. We are very lucky indeed with the members on the team (- the best finance team that Fr D has ever had).
On Thursday evening there was a Baptism Preparation Session scheduled but no families are ready at this time to undertake preparation so the whole set of sessions is now cancelled and any families requesting Baptism will need to book on the next set of sessions. After Mass on Friday Fr D went off to see and have lunch with one of our priests who has been in self-isolation for over two years now because he has had cancer and has a reduced immune system due to his treatment regime. Fr D and said priest grew up together from the age of eight . . . . .
