On Monday evening our Hungarian prayer group removed the decorations from the Christmas tree, putting them away until they are needed in eleven months time.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D prepared for a funeral service and burial of a parishioner. In the afternoon a parishioner came to chop up the Christmas Tree to dispose of it (luckily there was very little ‘needle drop’ this year. Later some parishioners came to remove this year’s Christmas flowers (which had lasted really very well). The church returned to normality in the early evening when the base of the Christmas tree was removed from the church by another couple of parishioners. Later in the evening Fr D was meeting with the parents of this year’s First Eucharist candidates - taking them through the first session ‘We all gather for Mass.’ On Saturday they will be taking their own children through the materials for this section, and then, at our Sunday 11.00 Mass, the children will be officially enrolled into the programme.
Once Morning Prayer and Mass were over on Wednesday Fr D was off in his car to the Tribunal Office in Brighton (first time in this new year). There was quite a lot waiting for him in his ‘in- tray!’ When he got back home after returning from Brighton Fr D had a quick cup of tea with the sisters next door before having a meeting with one of the Finance Committee members to plan a presentation to the rest of the Finance Committee next Wednesday when they meet for the first time this year. Towards the end of last year the surveyor who had looked over all our properties in October submitted his report about what works needed to be done over the next five years (quinquennial). Looking at all the works (and their prospective costings) Fr D and the committee member decided that starting from the top of the buildings downward was the best way to go (in this way the roof will be watertight and will protect all the works that have taken place internally. This means that many tile repairs/replacements will be required before we can move on to other aspects of the proposed works. They will now make a presentation to Fr D next Wednesday evening.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D went off to Notre Dame school to celebrate Mass for the prep school girls . . . . .
