The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
This week around The Presbytery has been a chance to calm down after a busy time with the celebration of First Eucharist and an Ordination to the Diaconate; Fr D has been delighted that things are ‘more normal’ - whatever that means . . . . . .
Sunday saw the completion, for the current year, of two of our Parish Sacramental Preparation Programmes. At our 09.00 Mass on Sunday all of our First Eucharist group received their Certificates of First Eucharist and the two new members of our Parish community who were Received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil were presented with their Certificates of Reception. Then, at the 11.00 Mass, all of those younger members of our community who celebrated Confirmation with Bishop Richard at Arundel on 22 nd April were presented with their Confirmation Certificates. By Lunchtime Fr D was heaving a great sigh of relief that all he had left before the summer holidays was a wedding and two baptisms this weekend (8/9th July). This will leave him free to concentrate on a revision of the Infant Baptism Programme ready for the Autumn - he is moving from two to three sessions for the parents and godparents of infants to be baptised.
On Tuesday, after Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition, Fr D was working on changing the supplier for our electricity for the church, Parish Centre, and Presbytery. The current contract that was arranged through the diocese has come to an end and the new one being offered was more expensive than before (with the wholesale prices falling substantially?). After some work chasing up with other suppliers Fr D found some considerable reductions; to this end the Parish will cease to be part of the diocesan combined contract (we can re-join after a year if things do not work out). In the evening Fr D met with the parents of one of the children to be baptised this weekend after the 11.00 Mass for their final session of preparation (the other family had already completed their preparations on an earlier programme.
Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was off in the car down to the diocesan offices in Crawley to continue work at the Tribunal. After dealing with several decrees he continued work on his judgement of a particularly difficult case where he needs to word his decision very carefully.
On Friday, having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was due at a Trust formation Day for the Bosco Catholic Education Trust . . . . .
