The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A relatively quiet week around The Presbytery as parishioners get back to work and schools begin to reopen for the Spring Term . . . . .
On Monday Fr D met with a parishioner in the church just after 08.00 to change two of the flood light bulbs in the church. They had both made sure that all the bulbs were working before Christmas only to have two bulbs go on consecutive days just before the festivities began! Fortunately Fr D tries to keep a supply of these bulbs so they were readily available; they are halogen bulbs though, which means that they are no longer produced. Eventually we will have to look at making some changes to the lighting as the bulbs become unobtainable. The rest of Monday Fr D spent ‘calming down’ after all the festivities.
After Mass on Tuesday Fr D was tidying up after the Christmas liturgies and getting a couple of homilies ready for two school Masses at Notre Dame School Wednesday (staff) and Thursday (seniors).
After Mass on Wednesday Fr D was delighted to discover that we are now able to properly export (and get paid for) any surplus electricity from the solar panels. This has taken since June to get organised and Fr D was beginning to give up any hope of getting it done (every stage seemed to throw up difficulties); the company purchasing the electricity has actually said in their email that we are among the first to sell but not purchase electricity from them (because it is purchased centrally by the 22 dioceses of England and Wales to get better pricing). Fr D was such a ‘happy bunny’ to get this sorted - now he will try and get the same sort of deal with the electricity generated by the Parish Centre solar panels.
On Friday after the first Epiphany Holy Day Mass the Christmas flowers were partly refreshed to get us through to the end of the Christmas Season on Sunday (after Masses for the Baptism of the Lord). Before 1967 the Christmas Season used to go on until the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (2nd February) but this was changed by the Second Vatican Council. Celebrating the Solemnity of the Epiphany gives us a chance to use a few more carols in the Christmas Season as will Sunday.
On Saturday Fr D spent time refining his homily for the weekend and writing another for a funeral next Tuesday . . . . . .
