The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A really busy week around The Presbytery . . . . . .
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D loaded up Canon Tony Churchill and shot off to Redhill where the deanery clergy were meeting with Bishop Richard concerning his plans for the diocese to face 2030 onwards. There will, necessarily be more Parish amalgamations (Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill with Keymer will take place this summer) as we move forward and there is a possibility that the Epsom & Redhill Deanery will split again (but Cobham will remain with the Epsom side of the Deanery). The Bishop will next be meeting with clergy, head teachers and a few key members of parishes in a couple of weeks. When he arrived home Fr D had a big headache from all the discussion! In the late afternoon he worked out what liturgical items were needed for Lent and Easter and went through his normal routine to see which supplier was giving the best price/quality before making the orders online.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D went off to the Diocesan Offices in Crawley to deal with new items that had arrived in his ‘in-tray’ and carry on with a couple more cases fast approaching judgement. When he arrived home in the late afternoon there were two parcels waiting for him containing stock for the Repository that he had ordered two weeks ago; hopefully this stock will be available in the Repository this weekend. In the evening Fr D checked that the couples that he has put on the upcoming Marriage Preparation Course taking place in Epsom were booked in properly. Any Catholic in the Parish thinking about getting married needs to remember that the Law of the Church requires that they marry in a Catholic Church and that, in this diocese, they must give a minimum of twelve months notice - no matter where the marriage is taking place. It is also a good idea not to be making Reception arrangements before the marriage is booked in by the Church!
Thursday morning, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was out in Oxshott celebrating a House Blessing. When he arrived home he was making sure that the sound and video system was set up for the ‘Film Night’ that the sisters were running on Friday evening for their various missionary projects around the world.
Having spoken to some other priests Fr D is now considering the resumption of Communion under both kinds at our weekend Masses; this will of course mean restarting a rota for Ministers - listen to this weekend’s notices . . .
