The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Quite a busy week around The Presbytery this time around . . . .
After the 11.00 Mass last Sunday Fr D was off across to Epsom to join the Epsom Catenians at the celebration of their President’s Sunday; many of our parishioners are long-standing members of this Catholic Men’s Organisation. The lunch was very enjoyable and Fr D was able to talk to a few parishioners that he knew from his time in Epsom (nearly twenty five years ago!).
On Bank Holiday Monday Fr D was taken out to lunch by his housekeeper from his time in Reigate and another parishioner from that time. He had a great time chatting with them and remembering ‘old times’ over a very nice lunch - the time went by very quickly.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D had to go off to the doctors to have a series of blood tests; apart from the flu jabs each winter Fr D had not been seen by a medic since arriving in Cobham and they had decided to ‘check him out.’ Having got back home (running the gauntlet of a temporary set of four-way traffic lights outside of the sister’s house) he was just through the door when the telephone rang and the surgery was asking for another set of blood tests in two weeks time (what is that saying about waiting for a bus?)! In the afternoon Fr D confirmed with the sign writers the details and colours for the replacement outside church noticeboard (facing Downside Bridge Road); this piece of work had been on Fr D’s list for some time, so he was glad to get it sorted.
On Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D went off to Crawley (where all the diocesan offices are now located) to see what had arrived in his ‘in tray’ at the Tribunal. He is still having to ‘fine tune’ the new computer that he has been allocated and is chasing the ‘IT man’ to get set up with the ability to print when necessary. As the journey to Crawley is not as far as Brighton Fr D manages to stay longer before setting off for home once more.
Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D went off to Notre Dame School in order to celebrate Mass for the staff contingent before the pupils return next week. When he got back home he was delighted to discover that the new external notice board had been delivered - he was very pleased with the results and put a phone call in to try and arrange it being mounted in place. Later on in the afternoon Fr D was preparing the spare bedroom for the arrival of the sister giving the Overseas Missions Appeal this weekend.
