The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A busy week again around The Presbytery . . . .
With the end of our 11.00 Mass last Sunday the liturgical season of Eastertide came to an end and the Easter Garden was deconstructed, flower scheme changed, and the Paschal Candle went back to it’s position next to the Baptismal Font. We now embark on the second part of Ordinary Time until late November, using green as the basic liturgical colour - although there are a few solemnities/feasts that will still require white, such as this weekend (Holy Trinity) and next weekend (Corpus Christi). Those with a very keen eye will notice that Fr D has put his fan behind his chair once more, ready for when the heat in the church gets to be too much for him!
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D, unusually, took off in his car to the diocesan offices in Crawley. This was because he was not going to be able to go down on Wednesday or Thursday this week and he didn’t want too much building up in his ‘in-tray’ - May is always one of the most difficult months for his diary due to the Canon Law Conference, an annual retreat, the diocesan ‘In-Service’ course, and usually Confirmation. When he got back in the early evening Fr D started work on this weekend’s newsletter knowing that time this week was at a premium.
After celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday morning Fr D was across at Caterham where he was celebrating the burial of ashes for the father of a member of his Easter Lourdes Group. The deceased’s daughter is a teacher and waited for half term when both she and the grandchildren would be able to be present and deal with refreshments afterwards. In the evening Fr D continued with preparations for the newsletter.
On Thursday morning, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D had to rush down to Arundel Cathedral for a midday Mass celebrating all the Jubilarian priests this year. Those with jubilees to celebrate this year represent over three hundred years of priestly service. After the Mass the celebrations continued with a lunch for all the priests in the Cathedral Centre. When he got back home in the evening Fr D was meeting with another family who are following the Baptism Programme for their child to be baptised in early July.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D was preparing the requiem for a parishioner in the afternoon . . . . . .
