The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Once again a lot going on here at The Presbytery this week as many project begin to ‘heat-up’ ready to be put into action . . . . .
On Monday of this week a building surveyor was on site looking at the whole of The Presbytery and the outside of the Church and Parish Centre (he will be coming back to look at the inside of the Church and Parish Centre soon). This was the beginnings of what is known as the ‘Quinquennial Survey’ that is required by the diocese to ascertain the state of all our Parish estate. As the name suggests this survey takes place in each Parish every five years and helps to form the timetable of major repairs and maintenance before the next survey. Once the survey is completed a report will be sent to both the Parish Finance Committee and the diocese.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Tuesday Fr D was seen walking around the outside of The Presbytery and the gardens with another surveyor; this was the final site survey for the placing of solar panels which will help to cut the electricity bills for the house (the government, Surrey County Council and Elmbridge Council have produced a highly subsidised scheme which Fr D is making use of). Fr D is also arranging for an Air Source Heat Pump to replace the gas boiler in the house and the generated electricity from the solar panels will help to drive this (again he has taken advantage of another government subsidy to do this).
On Wednesday, having celebrated Mass, Fr D was down at Bishop’s House conducting an interview with a person looking to have an annulment of their marriage. These interviews usually take him at least two and a half hours. There were also a lot of things that had built-up in his ‘in-tray’ whilst he was away on holiday which needed his attention.
On Thursday after Mass Fr D was in the Parish Office with the engineer who has been working on the solar array on the Parish Centre roof. The inverter had ceased to work some time ago (we are not sure when?) and a new one has now been fitted. We also learnt that it had never in fact been connected to the grid and are now working to get this done and hopefully backtracked! We are now able to track both the health of the system and it’s output from the computer in the Parish Office (which should have been sorted when it was originally fitted). Sarah will now be chasing things to see if we can get anything back from what we should have earnt over the years since the Parish Centre was erected. Fr D is very grateful for all the work that Sarah does manage to get done - and she is much better at ‘sweet-talking’ than he is . . . . . . .
