The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very busy week around The Presbytery this week as Fr D gets ready to go off on holiday and the bishop meets with all the clergy of the diocese for a couple of days of in-service training . . . .
On Tuesday Fr D went off in the car after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, to have his new Covid jab. He went to the same chemist in Chessington where he has received all his prior Covid jabs; they were just as efficient as they had been in the past and he was back home by 12.45, none the worse. In the evening he met once more with the parents of this year’s First Reconciliation candidates; this was the third meeting and they are now half-way through the course.
On Wednesday Fr D spent some time, after Morning Prayer and Mass, getting Newsletters, Prayers of Intercession, and Notices ready for the time that he will be away. At 11.15 he and Canon Churchill left for the Clergy In-Service session at a hotel in Horsley - Fr D was pleased that he didn’t have to drive too far for this. Nearly ninety clergy were present for a series of presentations on this first day. In the evening Fr D came home (to his own bed) rather than stay at the hotel (this also saved some money).
On Thursday Fr D left early so that he would be at the hotel in time for the first scheduled session; this unfortunately meant that he was unable to celebrate Morning Prayer and Mass in the morning. The sessions continued until 13.00 when the conference closed and Fr D was pleased to get back having been ‘talked at’ for over a day. In the evening Fr D concentrated on completing this weekend’s newsletter and a little more of the coming weeks as well.
On Friday morning Fr D was pleased to get back to his normal routine with Morning Prayer and Mass. He passed over this weekend’s Newsletter to Sarah for her to print and get ready to send out as emails to parishioners. After this he had to take off in the car for Worthing where he was attending the Requiem Mass for ’Little Joan’ of his ‘old ladies’ from his last parish. On getting back to the parish in the early evening Fr D, once more, was doing as much of the following week’s Newsletters as he could; he also spent time on working out a schedule for Canon Churchill and various parishioners for while he is away.
On Saturday morning Fr D met with the First Reconciliation Candidates and their parents which brings them to half way through the course too . . .
