The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Quite a heavy week around The Presbytery as several projects are coming to ‘boiling point!’
Over last weekend Fr D was delighted to be celebrating with our First Eucharist candidates and their families one of the little ‘rites’ on their way to the ‘big day.’ This time it was the reception of a simple wooden cross (Tau cross) which they could wear around their necks. This was in connection with the new life brought about by the cross and the Eucharistic Prayer used in the Mass. Fr D had got the crosses whilst he was out in Lourdes after Easter.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Fr D set about making the templates for the next few week’s newsletters and began to get the information together for creating next year’s catechetical timetable (school holiday dates, Christmas and Easter dates, Corpus Christi date etc.); this will help him to plot out Baptism dates, First Reconciliation Dates, and First Eucharist dates for next year. The only dates he cannot obtain at present is the date of celebration of Confirmation next year; all he knows is that the Bishop wants all Confirmations next year to be celebrated at Arundel Cathedral.
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was straight into the car and down to Bishop’s House (wearing his ‘other hat’ - Tribunal). When he got home in the late afternoon there was an email from Octopus Energy waiting for him as part of the process of setting up a contract to sell excess electricity back to the national grid. Fr D has asked the diocese to help sort some of this out as we purchase all our gas and electricity through a big national purchase scheme and this makes us more complicated than an ordinary domestic dwelling. He also received a copy of the title deeds to The Presbytery which he needs to send off to the government department dealing with the government rebate towards the cost of the recently fitted Air Source Heat Pump. Both of these projects have created quite a bureaucratic maelstrom - at least to begin with (Fr D keeps telling himself this will only be the case whilst ‘setting things up’).
On Thursday Fr D spent some time getting the new contactless electronic payment machine ready to be put into operation this weekend. Parishioners will be able to contribute to the Offertory, any Retiring Collection, and make donations using their bank card (- just like paying for shopping at the supermarket!) . . . . .
