The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A ‘complicated’ week for Fr D this time . . . . .
After Mass last Saturday evening Fr D went across to Caterham to attend a reunion of his HCPT Group with whom he went to Lourdes after Easter this year. It was good to meet up and look at all the photographs that had been taken by various members. It now looks like Fr D will be going to Hosanna House with an adult group at the end of July as well!
On Sunday after the 11.00 Mass Fr D celebrated the baptism of a young girl who celebrated the ‘Rite of Welcome’ earlier in May with her parents and godparents. Just before the service began Fr D met the girl’s grandfather who was a parishioner in Fr D’s previous parish in Worthing (it is a small world).
On Tuesday, having celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D began work on producing the applications for our 2023/4 Infant Baptism, First Reconciliation, and First Eucharist Programmes. Getting together the school holiday dates, bank holidays, when Advent begins, when Lent begins, when Easter is, and his diary all together is always a big project. As always he hopes that he will have the applications ready for next weekend . . . . . .
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was in a but of a rush; not because he was going off to the Diocesan Offices as he normally does, but because he was picking up Fr Tony Churchill as they were joining the rest of the clergy of the diocese in the annual ‘Clergy In-Service’ days. Everyone gathered for lunch at midday before the programme began at 14.00. The theme was ‘Pastoral and Theological Perspectives on LGBTQ.’ The talks, discussions, and workshops covered Sex, Identity, and Gender questions that can arise in parish ministry at this moment in time. Most of the priests were residential but Fr D being only 18 minutes away opted for his own bed and food!
On Thursday the ‘In-Service’ concluded at 13.00 and Fr D brought Fr Tony back home before grabbing a sandwich and going off to a meeting of the Trustees of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust in Burgess Hill. On the way back he dropped in to some friends in Reigate to arrange a trip to a Surrey cricket match at the Oval in August.
On Friday after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D had a couple of appointments before getting back to the business of matching dates in his diary for next year’s Sacramental Programmes . . . . . .
