The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Another busy week around The Presbytery . . . . .
During a period of very wild winds, as part of Cobham’s marking of Christian Unity Week 2024 the main celebration of the week was hosted by the Sacred Heart on Sunday evening. A thoughtful celebration of Evening Prayer of the Church with prayers for Christian Unity. Many visitors came up to Fr D in the Parish Centre at tea and coffee afterwards and said how much they enjoyed the service.
On Monday evening Fr D was meeting in the Parish Centre with our Parish Finance Committee; one of four regular quarterly meetings. This being the first meeting of the year the team were able to see the provisional figures for 2023. During the meeting it was mentioned that quite a few parishioners are under the impression that there is still an outstanding debt on the building of the Parish Centre - this is not the case (the debt on the Parish Centre has been paid off). The main expenses that we need to be working hard to fund are those items that the five yearly building survey reported - we need to get these works completed before the next survey is due, so that a ‘backlog’ does not develop. Thought has also been going on as to the fact that the Parish Secretary is a ‘lone worker’ in the Centre on her own. The safety and security aspects of this have been considered and we are now looking to introduce a security door on the first floor landing.
On Tuesday, after celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D was back in the house ready for a workman from the solar panel company to fit an extra storage battery (putting all three in a special rack) and wire in an EV charging module just in front of the garage. The workman was asking Fr D how he found the Air Source Heat Pump for heating and hot water (as he himself was thinking of getting one). As they were talking together the workman told Fr D about a little-known electricity tariff with our electricity providers (Octopus) that gives very cheap-rate electricity between 23.30 and 05.30 every night. Fr D was greatly impressed and is looking into this as the source of still more savings.
Following Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday, Fr D did not jump in the car and head for Crawley as normal, he actually had an interviewee who was coming to the Parish Centre to meet him (- was delighted as he hates the roads around Crawley, saying that they are worse for pot holes than around Cobham?) . . . . . .
