The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly busier week around The Presbytery as preparations for Programmes and beginning to sort out books onto study shelves occupied Fr D . . . . .
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D began to have a ‘clear out’ of his study in preparation for unpacking books onto the shelves. He found it very surprising just how much paper has built up in two years and nine months (though I suspect that some of it came along with him from Worthing!). The poor shredder in his study was definitely working the hardest it ever has. Fr D also managed to give instructions for a new external noticeboard to be produced replacing the somewhat out of date and weather damaged present one (hopefully, once fitted, this will last a good long time).
Fr D was in the car and off down to Crawley after Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday. Having sorted out his new office last week he was being ‘instructed’ in his new computer and the new network this week. There are now no desktops anywhere in the diocesan offices - all are now mini laptops that plug in at the various desks.
Fr D was out early on Thursday as the workmen were coming early to renew the white-lining of the church car park. When he met the Euro Car Park manager Fr D asked explicitly whether or not the very inclement weather would delay things for the workmen and the answer was no, it would not. After celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D went out to check on progress before going down to Crawley only to find that the weather had indeed cancelled the project. We must now wait for another date to become available to get this job done. When he arrived at the St Philip Howard Centre Fr D was reading through the evidence that has been collected for one of his cases that is almost ready to move on to the next phase of the annulment process. When he got back in the late afternoon Fr D completed the newsletter as it all needed to be done before Friday.
On Friday morning the electrician came to The Presbytery to complete a few items that had been ‘flagged up’ in the electrical survey earlier in the year and to fit a new consumer unit. The new unit was necessary because the air source heat pump and the solar power panels fitted earlier in the year had used up the last two slots in the old unit. The new unit allows room for expansion in the future should this be necessary. A new cable was also run to the area under the present gas hob (ready for getting rid of gas from the house altogether and any gas bills!).
