The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A wide variety of things happening around The Presbytery this week . . . . .
Over the weekend the new banners for our Parish Christmas Bazaar arrived. Fr D was very pleased with them when he unpacked them to look at them. They are larger than the old PVC forerunner and are made of a mesh that allows any wind to pass through and not ‘balloon’ the banner; there is also no particular date to contend with each year as they state the ‘first Saturday of December’ - making life so much easier. Fr D ordered two, one for the front of the church and one for the Parish Centre balcony over the car park.
On Tuesday Fr D managed to finish the re-writing of the Infant Baptism Programme and now just needs to produce some handouts for parents and godparents. The new course will commence this autumn (ending with a celebration of baptism on the feast of Christ the King).
Wednesday morning after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D went off in the car to the diocesan offices at Crawley for his first trip of the week to the Tribunal. He was able to put the final touches to a particularly difficult marriage annulment case and set a date in September for the case to be judged. When he got back in the evening he set about checking the Christmas order for the Repository which had arrived over the weekend - this contained a large selection of Christmas cards, Advent Calendars, children’s Christmas books, and Christmas Cribs. All will be found in the Repository in November. Whilst he was thinking about the Repository he dug out some more Mass for the Dead cards which are now in the Repository.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday the safety inspectors for Health and Safety were making their six-monthly visit to check our buildings for Emergency Lighting, Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarms, the automatic shutter in the Parish Centre kitchen, and Fire Exits. Whilst here they connected a new back-up battery to one of the smoke alarms in The Presbytery and left three more batteries for other smoke alarms that were fitted at the same point in time (ready). As he was washing up after supper the sound engineer arrived to deliver the repaired lead to the lapel mic which had been playing up last weekend (really fast service!).
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday, as he was finishing the text for the newsletter the postman delivered a parcel which, upon opening, contained the Christmas Grand Draw tickets for use this autumn. These will be distributed about six weeks before the day for maximum coverage (and sales!) . . .
