The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Once again a ‘packed’ week around The Presbytery as Fr D made preparations for both the Lenten Season and our Parish ‘Pancake Supper & Quiz Night’ . . . . . . .
After the 11.00 Mass on Sunday Fr D was delighted to celebrate the baptisms of two younger members of our community whose parents had recently completed the Infant Baptism Preparation Course. These ‘Baptism Celebrations’ take place five times a year with one of the ‘fixed’ Sundays being the one before Ash Wednesday (although there will be a preparation course during Lent the next ‘Baptism Celebration’ will take place on Easter Sunday assuming there are any prepared families waiting). So, we welcome Siena and Dylan, congratulations to their families.
After celebrating Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday morning Fr D went to the Cash & Carry to complete the necessary shopping for the Parish ‘Pancake Supper & Quiz Night.’ Later in the evening parishioners gathered in the Parish Centre to take part in the Quiz and to partake of some very tasty pancakes with a variety of fillings and pouring sauces. There was a really good atmosphere at the event and a great time was had by all. The event raised a further £167 for CAFOD which will be added to next weekend’s CAFOD Lenten Fast Day.
After the pre-Lent ‘blow-out’ on Shrove Tuesday Fr D celebrated our Ash Wednesday Masses at 09.30 and 19.30 both of which were well attended. During the day he was also working on the arrangements for the next Deanery Clergy Meeting in March which Cobham Parish will host. Fr D has decided to use the same caterers that Effingham Parish used just before Christmas and has made decisions about the menu to be offered from the selection that the caterers provided (now all that he has to do is get the clergy to return their meal choices!).
Having celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday morning Fr D was off down to Crawley where he is racing to get three of his cases completed ready to be judged in March. When he arrived he was concerned that he was not going to be able to access the car park there were so many cars around. There was a meeting of the Council of Priests - Fr D almost broke into a cold sweat remembering when he spent twelve years on the Council!
Towards the end of the week Fr D found himself having to order a new tumble dryer for the house as the present one has started making some very laboured sounds! . . . . .
