The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Things happening rather speedily at The Presbytery this week as the final preparations for the Christmas festivities got underway . . . . .
On Sunday afternoon Fr D celebrated the final service of Advent Evening Prayer & Benediction in the church before grabbing a cup of tea and then returning to the church for our annual Parish Advent Carol Service. After the Carol Service parishioners retired to the Parish Centre where hot mince pies and mulled wine were available for all - thus began Christmas week.
During his day off on Monday Fr D put the finishing touches to his Christmas homilies. Also on Monday the floor man came along and put down the new flooring in the church Repository; this had been ordered before the various Covid restrictions and lockdowns had begun in March 2020 but was only this week able to be acted upon. The floor covering is the same type of carpet tile that was laid in the sacristy after the car crash in 2020; Fr D is very pleased with it.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D went off for a pub lunch with Fr John McKay. In the evening a parishioner came and put the crib together for our Christmas season.
Once he had celebrated Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday morning Fr D was able to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation to parishioners (until he ran out of customers), this was to help cover the fact that, due to the Covid situation, we have not been able to have an Adult Advent Reconciliation Service. In the afternoon some parishioners from a previous parish (Reigate) came over and took Fr D out for tea.
Again after Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was able to spend some time celebrating God’s forgiveness in the Reconciliation room in church; this was the last opportunity for parishioners this Advent season. After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday morning Fr D was able to put the finishing touches to the Christmas preparations as parishioners sorted out the flowers in the church for Christmas. Throughout the Advent season the Advent Wreath has gradually been developing - marking our own time preparing for the great Christmas feast. In the afternoon Fr D and some of the younger children of the Parish spent time completing the Christmas Crib and discussing it’s significance and history - a chance for the children to calm down a bit from all the pent-up excitement . . . . .
