The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A rather busy week again around The Presbytery . . . .
All through the week work has been continuing on the decoration of the lower levels of the church. The ‘St Joseph’ side aisle has now been fully completed (along with the parquet flooring in the aisle being re-polished whilst the benches were out). Work has also started on the lower levels of the sanctuary area, this will continue at the beginning of next week, leading on to work commencing on the ‘Our Lady’ side aisle.
Work has also continued (two days) on the wiring for the new sound system in the church (Fr D is amazed by just how many wires are involved in the project; at present there is a ‘spaghetti junction’ of wires hanging out of the ceiling in the flower sacristy!). Most of the work so far has centred on the wiring which the engineers are making sure does not detract from the beauty of the building.
Just after lunch on Monday Fr D has another of his ‘virtual’ meetings with other members of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust trustees. This was solely to look at an application by another secondary school to join the Trust and whether to approve it.
In the evening on Tuesday Fr D and a couple of parishioners were in the foyer of the Parish Centre taking down the Easter display that had been there since the Triduum at Easter. Fr D had been approached by several visitors to the car park who were pleased to see the display and some asked questions about it! Although it might have been nice to have left the display available for the whole of Eastertide we are now having several of the allowable children’s groups coming back to use the Centre, necessitating a clear way at the entrance.
On Wednesday evening Fr D was meeting (‘virtually’ again) with the other members of the Parish Finance Committee for one of their quarterly meetings, looking at the finances and buildings of the Parish. Fr D was able to give an updated report on the refurbishment of the guest bathroom in the presbytery, the renewal of our CCTV security system around the church and grounds, some electrical maintenance that the outside lighting around the church required (the lights above the car park are no longer running 24/7!), and, of course the ongoing works in the church. Most of Thursday Fr D was down at the Tribunal Office at Bishop’s House as things begin to resemble normality once more. When he got back he met with a family who are preparing for the baptism of their baby in the near future . . . . . . . .
