The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A really busy week around The Presbytery as schools close for the holidays, rehearsals continue for our Christmas Liturgies, and trying to make sure that our Readers, Welcomers, and Servers are organised over the festive period . . . . .
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D was working on the calendar of sessions for our possible Confirmation candidates (now that we have the celebration date). This has become more difficult than normal due to the late arrival of the date and Fr D’s diary. (but he’ll get there!). At lunchtime he was meeting with Fr Ruslan (Walton) for their monthly get together. In the afternoon Fr D was back juggling dates for Confirmation. In the late afternoon/evening he let the workmen in to give the church floor it’s ‘top-up’ coat of polish ready for Christmas; whilst they were in they also mounted the correct locks on the new doors to the church.
Wednesday, following Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was checking the running order for the various Christmas Liturgies (proof reading etc.). He also started the Newsletter (his parts) because he knew that time was going to be at a premium towards the end of the week. In the evening Fr D was around to let the singers into the church for another rehearsal.
Following Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday, Fr D was off down to the diocesan offices in Crawley for the last time before January where he discovered quite a full ‘in-tray’ awaiting him. Just before he left he met a delivery courier outside the front door of The Presbytery who handed him a parcel that turned out to be the new edition of our Parish Diary. Fr D had given up hope of getting a Parish Diary printed as so many of the companies that supplied these died off during or after COVID. Sarah found a new company this autumn (through another local Parish Secretary) and these were the result. Whilst he was down in Crawley the Christmas tree for this year was erected in the church. On his way home from Crawley Fr D managed to get the greater amount of his food shop for Christmas completed (popping into Tescos at Gatwick!).
On Friday morning Fr D led the last Morning Prayer before Christmas (this will start up again on Tuesday 14th January); after celebrating Mass he finished his parts of the newsletter before handing it over to Sarah to complete and print/upload.
Saturday morning our singers and musicians were having almost their last rehearsal for Christmas in the church . . .
