The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly less busy week around The Presbytery this time . . . . . .
Last Saturday, at our evening Mass, Fr D was delighted to present to this year’s First Eucharist candidates a small cross to be worn around the neck. He had got these on his last trip to Lourdes, just after Easter. The cross of course serves two purposes: a reminder of just what love Jesus showed for all people; and, a reminder that to follow Jesus as Christians we all need to take up or crosses every day.
Monday Fr D was once again with his Ministry to Priests Support Group, this time up in Ewell, where the group had the opportunity for prayer, a sharing of life, and a nice meal together.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday, Fr D met with the Diocesan Property Manager at the church to review the Parish Quinquennial Survey regarding the roofs of the main church and where they join the Parish Centre. The regular survey had produced several areas on the roofs that need to be attended to, no one of which was a major issue, but cumulatively need to be worked on together. It is unlikely that these issues can be dealt with without using scaffolding (which is very expensive), and so Fr D wanted to have advice as to how to schedule things in the most efficient manner whilst still getting everything done. The Property Manager is a qualified surveyor and has overseen several projects across the diocese, so Fr D has asked him to seek out contractors, brief them on our needs, and then assist with a ‘beauty parade’ before we appoint one to undertake the works. Of course, once everything concerning the roofs is sorted and we are confidently water-tight we’ll need to move down the building!
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was not going down to the diocesan offices in Crawley as he had a Clergy Supervision and Mentoring workshop to attend in Godalming.
Thursday was the Solemnity of the Ascension, a Holy Day of Obligation, and Fr D was celebrating Mass both in the morning and in the evening. Fr D was hoping to have the Diocesan IT Officer in the parish in the afternoon but this proved impossible in the end as another appointment in the morning overran. Fr D is looking at ways in which the telephones and broadband in house, church, and office can be rationalised with advances in modern technology; this should also result in cutting the ongoing costs considerably . . . . . .
