The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A slightly less eventful week around The Presbytery this time . . . .
On Monday Fr Daryl stayed around on his day off as the CCTV engineers were coming up from Cardiff to undertake the upgrades to our CCTV Security System. When Fr D arrived in November 2019 he was acutely aware of the horrible grinding noises emanating from the CCTV recording unit in the church/house link. Also the pictures generated by the security cameras in and around the church were very grainy (with some not producing a picture at all!). After his first Christmas (after the first ‘lock-down’ was underway) Fr D got the company that had fitted the system originally to quote for it to be upgraded, but was disappointed at the quotation. Once the decision had been taken to introduce a permanent LiveStream Service from the church Fr D asked the company fitting it to quote for the upgraded security and was delighted when they came in a clear £1,500 below the original quote. The engineers arrived on Monday morning and immediately set about the upgrade (working through until 19.00!). By the time they left in the evening we had a completely new system (bar the wiring around the property which was found to be good) which will, hopefully take us through to another twenty five years.
On Tuesday morning the quotation from the decorators arrived for ‘part two’ of the church redecoration project; a hefty sum but only to be expected with such a large project. It is hoped that these works will commence shortly after Easter so that they are finished before the summer months when decorators like to complete outdoor projects. To give the workers a good run at the works it is likely that we will be celebrating our weekday Masses in the Parish Centre whilst the decorations take place; our weekend Masses will continue to be celebrated in the church building.
Like busses, it would appear that projects come along in threes, as an email from the Sound Engineers on Thursday suggested that after Easter would also be when the replacement of the present sound system in the church would begin and the news that it will probably take two weeks to complete. All of these projects are really useful to have completed and out of the way before September when Bishop Richard will be visiting the Parish to celebrate the church building’s Diamond Anniversary - more news on this in a future newsletter . . . . . .
