The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Slightly quieter than last week around The Presbytery, but nevertheless Fr D has been rushing about as he tries to complete several things before the year’s end!
At our Sunday 11.00 Mass last weekend Fr D was delighted to welcome a new infant, through baptism, into our Sacred Heart community. This was the last baptism of 2024 with a new preparation course beginning on 9th January, ending with the celebration of Baptism on 9th February.
On Tuesday, after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D went off in the car to the diocesan offices once more to deal with things in the Tribunal Office. He was keen to get in as, for several reasons over the December period he is not able to get down and the offices break for Christmas on 20th December until 6th January. His cases are now well advanced, with nothing waiting for him at present - though the number of enquiries that he has to think about seems to be on the increase! In the evening he was a bit lost I think as there was no meeting for the parents of our First Reconciliation candidates - the children will be celebrating their First Reconciliation this Saturday (30th) after which there is a break until 7 th January when they will start preparations for First Eucharist.
Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was chasing up a few different things that he wants sorted before the New Year. He also did quite a bit of work on his Advent/Christmas homilies so that he knew they were ready. Work on the newsletter (his bits) also started on Wednesday this week as the end of the week looked a bit full.
On Thursday after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was helping a friend to sort out their annual Travel Insurance (as their bank stopped arranging it because they had had a birthday?). After this two parishioners were with Fr D in the church to arrange this year’s Advent Wreath (not that Fr D did anything more than explain the concept and then approve at the end (he was very, very pleased - sending a photograph off to another priest!). Just after lunch he had to appear at the doctor’s for a blood test (as he said “another four bottles of blood!).
Friday, following Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was around the church making sure that everything was ready for the change into the Advent Season. The Mass books are now in line with the texts in the new Lectionary that we have been using for the past few weeks - this will save him an awful lot of earache with people saying “Fr did you know that the readings are not the same . . . . .”
