The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
It really been getting busy around The Presbytery this week as things move into a ‘higher gear’ for the end of Lent and Holy Week . . . . .
On Monday this week Fr D was host to his Ministry to Priest’s Support Group. They gathered in the church for midday and a hour of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. After this the assembled priests went through to The Presbytery where they celebrated Midday Prayer of the Church before climbing into cars to visit a local hostelry where they had lunch and started to ‘chew the cud’ over what had happened in their ministries since their last meeting a month ago. On getting back to The Presbytery they enjoyed a cup of tea whilst waiting for a member of the group who is still ‘shielding ‘to ‘phone in’ to the meeting to do his sharing. When all ‘business’ was over they celebrated Evening Prayer before driving home until their next meeting which will be in May due to the timing of Easter this year.
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday, Fr D was again playing host - this time to the clergy of the deanery for the regular Deanery Clergy Meeting. This was the first time (with COVID et al) that Cobham have played host since Fr D arrived. The meeting was held in the St Francis Room in the Parish Centre with the priests and deacons having tea and coffee before the meeting began at 11.30. Due to the fact that our Dean is recovering from a major operation at this time Fr D also had to chair the meeting. After opening with a prayer Fr D worked through the agenda that had been prepared by the Deanery Secretary with various items (Lenten Reconciliation Services, difficulties with banking because so many banks are closing, follow on from the recent round of visits by Bishop Richard regarding the future, etc.). By 12.45 Fr D ticked off the last item on the agenda and finished with a prayer before everyone retired to the Hall for a very nice lunch. Fr D was so impressed with the caterers that Effingham had used at Christmas that he got them in again for Cobham’s turn - he was not disappointed!
Tuesday evening Fr D was meeting with the parents of this year’s First Eucharist Candidates, preparing them for their Saturday session when they’ll be teaching their children. By the end of this weekend they will be half-way through the programme for this year. On Thursday evening Fr D was meeting with our Confirmation Candidates for a session on the place of Our Lady in the Catholic Church . . . . .
