The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Again quite a busy week around The Presbytery as things begin to pick up again now the schools have started back for a new academic year . . . . .
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday morning Fr D shot off in the car to a doctor’s appointment at the health centre. When he got back home afterwards he set about preparing for his meeting in the evening with First Reconciliation parents in the evening, looking at the first section of the course ready for the parents to work with their children on Saturday morning. Later in the afternoon Fr D was thinking about issues that had been raised with him by parishioners concerning the misuse of the Car Park on Sundays by non-parishioners leading to a lack of spaces for parishioner use whilst attending Mass. After re-reading several times the instructions on the car park noticeboards Fr D decided that the solution was to do away with any non-charging periods in the car park (basically Sundays) [further explanation elsewhere in this week’s newsletter].
Early in the morning on Wednesday Fr D had a call from his doctor to give him the results of the blood tests that he’s had to undergo recently. Fr D did not have to go to the Tribunal Office after Morning Prayer and Mass as his secretary is away. This gave him a chance to get through some emails and letters that he needed to write and prepare a few more of his weekday homilies.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was putting the finishing touches to the newsletter and then trying to ‘get ahead’ with the newsletters for the time that he is away on holiday (for those sections that he could). In the afternoon he chased up the inter-diocesan fuel management group to find out when British Gas was going to release the electricity meter so that we can start selling our excess solar electricity to another provider (British Gas only pays 1p per unit!); at present the surplus goes into the National Grid without the Parish receiving any benefit!
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday Fr D prepared for the children’s Reconciliation course session on Saturday morning. In the evening Fr D was down at West Grinstead for the next stage of preparation for a parishioner who is thinking about becoming a Permanent Deacon in the Parish - he has been down at this time of year twice before as various liturgical rites have been celebrated to mark progress . . . . . .
