The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A very busy week this time as Fr D prepared everything for the weekend whilst he was celebrating a wedding in France and also started the finishing touches to the Diaconate Ordination booklet for next week . . . . .
On Sunday Fr D received the final music and texts for our upcoming Diaconate Ordination service with Bishop Richard on 29th June; these are the final pieces of information before ‘setting’ the booklet ready for print. During our weekend Masses all our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion celebrated their re-commitment to their ministry just before the ‘Lamb of God.’ At our 11.00 Mass we celebrated the ‘Rite of Welcome’ for an infant who will be baptised in July. After our 11.00 Mass we began our annual extended period of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament which continued until 15.00 when Evening Prayer & Benediction was celebrated.
Unexpectedly on Monday two strange things happened:
First thing in the morning the sisters electrical power disappeared in one of the houses. Fr D went in to see if there was anything he could detect but, having done the usual checks, was unable to progress things - suggesting the sisters got in touch with the electrician that he uses for the Parish. In the event, when he came back from his Support Group day, Fr D saw that a very big hole had been dug in the sisters drive - the problem had been located in the supply cables underground and the ‘fix’ was still progressing. Light and power was restored about 21.30 in the end!
Fr D ended up going off to Ewell for his monthly Ministry to Priest’s meeting. On Sunday evening he was phoned by two of the group; one to say that he was not able to make the meeting this month, and the other to say that his car had failed it’s MOT and he was therefore unable to drive it until repairs had been effected! All of this led to a change of venue from Cobham to Ewell.
On Tuesday after Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition Fr D went off to attend this month’s Deanery Clergy Meeting. This was to have been held at Ashtead but ended up being held in Banstead. In the evening Fr D had a Zoom meeting with Bishop Richard. After Mass and Morning Prayer on Thursday Fr D set about making sure that everything was in place for the weekend. In the evening he met with this year’s Confirmation group for their last session . . . . .
