The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A busy week once again as decorations of the church and the fitting of the new sound system near completion . . . . .
On Sunday at our 10.00 Mass another infant, it’s parents, and godparents celebrated the Baptism Rite of Welcome ready for the celebration of Baptism in a couple of weeks time. There are also five more families now on the next Baptism Preparation Course!
Monday should have been Fr D’s Ministry to Priest’s Support Group day but, given the present regulations concerning social distancing it was not possible for the group to meet (not even virtually as at least two of the group could be described as technically challenged!).
On Tuesday, after celebrating morning Mass, there was another virtual Deanery Clergy Meeting to be endured. In the afternoon Fr D spent some time finalising his homily for the Ascension Holy Day and started work on the newsletter as he knew time was going to be at a premium towards the end of the week.
After morning Mass on Wednesday the equipment for celebrating Mass was moved downstairs to the Hall in the Parish Centre in preparation for the two Ascension Holy Day Masses. The altar was set up before the chairs were going to be laid out in the evening with the help of a parishioner. Thursday was very busy indeed with Masses at 09.30 and 19.30 in the Parish Centre. Also a stainless steel restraining bar for the church balcony was delivered ready to be mounted; this was required because the present balustrade was too low under present Health and Safety legislation. Fr D has also decided that no children under twelve will, in future, be allowed in the balcony area when it is opened because of expected high numbers. In the afternoon a further virtual meeting of the trustees of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust took place, finishing just in time for the evening Mass.
On Friday after Mass Fr D had to rush off as he was celebrating Mass at Notre Dame School for the feast day of their founder, St Jeanne. Works on trees were taking place in the grounds of the school so the usual entrance that he would use was not passable and he had to locate and use a back entrance on the Seven Hills Road (good job that he has a very good satnav in the car!). The sound engineer was working hard to ensure that there was a working system in place for the weekend as he had removed the old one. It will still need further ‘tuning’ before it is properly commissioned, probably during next week . . . .
