The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A full week around The Presbytery this time around . . . . .
On Sunday after celebrating the morning Masses Fr D was delighted to be taken out for lunch by a parishioner from one of his old parishes - now a regular occurrence about every 8/9 weeks.
On Monday morning a parishioner came to help take down the Crib since Christmastide ended on Sunday. All the statutes were carefully covered in protective bubble wrap and then packed in two large plastic crates for safety. At midday Fr D’s Ministry to Priest’s Support Group gathered in the church for an hours prayer before the Blessed Sacrament before spending the day together, having a meal at a local hostelry, joining in a ‘review of life’ since their last meeting, and celebrating various parts of the Divine Office together before going off to their various homes again. In the evening a group of parishioners took down and packed away the Christmas tree decorations until next year.
On Tuesday morning Fr D celebrated a requiem Mass for a long-time parishioner before going on to Randalls Park Crematorium for the committal and joining the family for a small reception back at the Parish Centre. In the early evening two parishioners arrived to take down the Christmas tree and cut it up for recycling. Later in the evening Fr D had a meeting with the Parish Finance Committee - during the meeting they received the accounts for last year and set this year’s budget. It is intended that several roof repairs highlighted by the last mandatory quinquennial buildings survey will be undertaken this year (tiles around the Velux windows in the Parish Centre; several spot tile repairs on the main roof of the church, and at least one ‘warm’ replacement of the five flat roofs around the church - more if possible).
On Wednesday morning after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was at Cobham Cemetery interring ashes before carrying on down to the diocesan offices at Crawley for the first time this year. He was delighted that there was not too much waiting for him in his ‘in tray’ and he was able to get on with writing up his judgement for one of his cases. He generally tries to get two cases written up that involve the same judges before calling the judgement session to save too much travelling for the associate judges.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Thursday Fr D was back down at the diocesan offices ploughing on with his marriage cases . .
