The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Not quite so busy around The Presbytery this week, but still a lot of arrangements being made for Holy Week . . . . .
Fr D is delighted with the way that some of our ‘Lenten Devotions’ are quietly going ahead: the Way of the Cross, being led by parishioners, at 12.30 on Fridays; the CAFOD Fast Lunch in the Parish Centre on Friday lunchtimes, being prepared by parishioners; and the celebration of Lenten Sunday Evening Prayer & Benediction on the Sundays of Lent. All these opportunities provide parishioners with important spaces to exercise ‘Prayer, Fasting, and Alms-Giving’ the three great Lenten disciplines. If you have not yet done anything to begin your Lenten preparations for the ‘Great Week,’ now is the time to get started!
Towards the end on the Lenten Season there are planned opportunities to celebrate the great gift of the Lord’s forgiveness: Saturday 25th March 11.00 a Children’s Lenten Reconciliation Service for those still at Primary School, and Thursday 30th March at 19.30 an Adult Lenten Reconciliation Service in Our Lady of Sorrows, Effingham (KT24 5JP). Both of these are ideal opportunities to make sure that we fulfil our ‘Easter Duties’ [that is receive Holy Communion in a state of grace, having celebrated Reconciliation, at some point between Ash Wednesday and Trinity Sunday].
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition on Tuesday Morning Fr D had an engineer in the house to complete the first service of the Air Source Heat Pump which replaced the old gas boiler. It doesn’t seem possible that the heat pump has been in place since the end of February in 2022. The cost of the annual service is about the same as a gas boiler but seemed to be much fuller to Fr D (who was watching everything as it went along, in case there was anything to learn!).
When he was down at the diocesan offices on Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was going through a ‘job description,’ ‘person specification,’ and advert to replace his secretary who will be retiring in the Autumn this year after eight years with the Tribunal team. The interviews will take place after Easter and the successful candidate will have a three-month handover with the present person.
On Thursday evening Fr D met up with the parents and godparents of two sisters who will be baptised at the 11.00 Mass on Easter Sunday . . . . .
