The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
With the return of our schools things were really ‘hotting-up’ around The Presbytery this week . . . .
Having offered many prayers for dry weather for Monday Fr D awoke very pleased that the white-lining of the car park could take place. After he’d had his breakfast he went out to see how things were progressing and saw some smoke rising from behind the hedge in the corner of the car park which began to increase rapidly. It was a fire (probably caused by a cigarette butt) and pretty soon it was reducing the hedge to ashes, so Fr D shot into the house and called the fire brigade who were very soon on site with two engines. Fr D was heard to say shortly after the firemen had left that he would have preferred not to have had such excitement on a Monday morning! The white-lining was mostly done before the rains came and Fr D was pleased with the results. There are now three very clearly marked spacious disabled bays at the nearest slots to the main entrance which are only for those vehicles with disabled badges (giving them the shortest walk into the church). Checking most mornings this week Fr D was greatly gratified to see that everyone was keeping to the marked bays!
After Morning Prayer, Mass, and Exposition, Fr D was off to Notre Dame School to celebrate a Mass for the senior school. In the evening Fr D met with the parents of those children taking part in this year’s First Reconciliation/Eucharist courses for the Launch of the programme. The families will be celebrating the Rite of Inscription for Reconciliation at our 11.00 Mass this Sunday.
On Wednesday and Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D took off for the new diocesan offices in Crawley to do his bit at the Tribunal - he now has several cases in the final stages before he has to make a judgement as to the validity of the marriages. On Wednesday afternoon the present external noticeboard was taken away to be rubbed down and re-lacquered ready to have the new alloy section added and then remounted on the side of the church.
Friday, after Morning Prayer ad Mass, Fr D was back off to Notre Dame School again, this time to celebrate Mass for the Prep School students. Before he went off the garage came and took his car away for it’s very first service. As it went out of the drive Fr D thought to himself that he ought to get it washed . . . . .
