The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Another very full week for Fr D around The Presbytery . . . . .
After he had finished the Weekend Masses on Sunday Fr D was taken out for lunch by a past parishioner from Reigate. Later in the afternoon he met with a young couple for the last time before their marriage takes place. The groom was one of Fr D’s past First Reconciliation/Eucharist and Confirmation candidates from his time as Parish Priest in Reigate, some eighteen years ago. Later in the month Fr D will be travelling out to France for the wedding.
On Tuesday morning Fr D was letting gardeners into the garden at The Presbytery for one of their six monthly ‘spruce-ups:’ cutting back the bushes, raking away leaves, and cutting the grass. This time they also took down a tree that has been dead for a couple of years. Once he had sorted the gardeners out Fr D celebrated Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition before preparing two letters for the First Eucharist parents’ session in the evening; one was to ask if any of the candidates would like to start serving at Mass after their ‘big day,’ the other contained notes about the running order of the First Eucharist celebration on Sunday 25 th at the 11.00 Mass. The session for parents on Tuesday evening was the last before the children celebrate.
On Wednesday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was off in his car down to Crawley to continue with his marriage cases - this time there were a lot of decrees to be made and signed to progress cases along the way and he began writing-up a judgement for a difficult case he has been dealing with.
Again of Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D was off down to Crawley to continue work on his current judgement. When he got back in the late afternoon he was meeting with Paul Fisher to further the preparations for his diaconate ordination celebration with Bishop Richard at our evening Mass on the St Peter & St Paul Holy Day on Thursday 29th June. Things are progressing well at present. At our 09.00 Mass on Sunday 25th June Paul will make a public profession of faith which is required before he proceeds to ordination. After Morning Prayer and Mass on Friday morning Fr D went off walking with a friend around Painshill Park before lunch. This was the first ‘real test’ of Fr D’s feet since his bout of plantar fasciitis a few weeks ago . . . .
