The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
A really busy week around The Presbytery as several things come to the end, along with the school academic year . . . . .
At our 09.00 Mass on Sunday some of our younger parishioners who have just celebrated their First Eucharist received their Certificates (Fr D is hoping that he’ll get a few servers from amongst them . . . .).
On Monday evening Fr D was at St Joseph’s, Epsom, along with our confirmation candidates, parents and sponsors for a rehearsal of the Confirmation Mass with Bishop Richard this coming Saturday morning (11.00). One of our candidates is doing the First Reading at the Mass (very well, according to Fr D).
Morning Prayer and Exposition was cancelled on Tuesday as a Requiem Mass was celebrated for a parishioner. Afterwards Fr D went off in the car to Randalls Park Crematorium for the committal along with the family.
After Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday Fr D was off in the car and down to Bishop’s House in Hove, for his Tribunal stint. When he arrived home again in the late afternoon he was meeting with a couple who are looking to get married next year. After having a quick cup of tea Fr D was in the Church for the Confirmation Lucenarium (Service of Light). During this short service for candidates, parents, siblings and sponsors where the original candle from the baptism of each candidate was lit from the Paschal Candle by one of their parents and solemnly handed over to the candidate as a sign that (with their family’s help) they are now responsible for their own faith. The parents, of course, had promised to be the first and best of teachers to their child in the ways of faith at their baptisms.
On Thursday, after Morning Prayer and Mass, Fr D finished off work on the newsletter (being otherwise occupied on Friday this week). In the late afternoon he was meeting with some parents that are looking to have two children Baptised. Later in the evening the second and final Baptism Preparation Session occupied Fr D in the Parish Centre.
All day Friday Fr D was at a meeting of the BOSCO Catholic Education Trust down in Chichester, a ‘Trust Development Day’ looking at the progression of the trust as more schools join and the trust enlarges . . . .
