The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . .
Quite a busy week again around The Presbytery . . . . . .
On Monday Fr D was visited by the lady in the diocese responsible for the wellbeing of priests; to have a chat about how he was coping with ‘lock-down’ and missing a proper holiday last year. Fr D said that although frustrated at not being allowed to function completely normally as a priest because of ‘lock-down’ there had been a lot of things completed that might not have been easy/possible to do without ‘lock-down.’ He was very pleased to have got the internal decoration of the church completed ready for the Diamond Jubilee of the present church in September this year; updating the sound system in the church; renewing the CCTV security system; and redecorating and fixing plumbing issues in the guest bathroom. He did say that he is feeling particularly tired and is counting the days until he goes off on holiday at the end of September (government regulations permitting!). He was able to take the lady on a tour of the church (showing it off!) and she did comment it was one of the best she’d seen in the diocese.
After Morning Prayer, Mass and Exposition, on Tuesday Fr D was able to start finalising the catechetical Parish diary for the coming year (September 2021 to July 2022). He normally likes to get this done and published by the last half-term of the academic year but things have been so different over the past eighteen months . . . . .
Following Morning Prayer and Mass on Wednesday morning Fr D did not, as he usually does, disappear down to the Tribunal Office at Bishop’s House because his secretary was on holiday. This did mean that he could spend more time on the catechetical diary and, indeed, he managed to complete all the diary dates for the Infant Baptism Programme and began juggling the dates for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Of course, in the evening, like most of the country the TV in The Presbytery was tuned to the England football match!
On Thursday after celebrating Morning Prayer and Mass Fr D was able to finalise the juggling of dates to fit with his diary, the school holidays etc. and was able to give the final files to Sarah for printing. The First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Application booklet will be available for the parents of possible candidates to collect from the church sacristy from this weekend. The parents will need to complete and return the Applications by 31st August so that Fr D can be ready to run by 7th September . . . . .
