The musings of one of God’s smallest creatures on events in and around the Parish over the past seven days . . . . Things around The Presbytery were a little bit faster this week as decisions of several meetings required working on . . . . . On Monday Fr D had a ‘lazy day’ on his day off - not getting up as early as he usually does, slow (cooked) breakfast, a long time with his daily newspaper, a walk at Painshill, catching up on some mail (snail and electronic), and a little TV catch-up! He was, however, still ready for an early night! Tuesday was the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas in ‘old currency’) which was celebrated at our normal 09.30 weekday Mass. After the celebration of Mass Fr D set about reading the quotation for the items needed for the bathroom refurbishments and checking with the builder that he was still able to complete the project in February. The end result was that the works will begin on Monday 15th February and are expected to take a week to complete. Wednesday was the Memoria of St Blaise and after celebrating Mass Fr D gave the traditional Blessing of Throats to all those who wanted. Coming in from Mass there was an email waiting to say that the sound engineers were pleased to get the contract for the new sound system and that they were now looking at their schedules to see when it can be fitted in (- I think that Fr D will be very pleased once this is dealt with as it has been causing him undue stress since his arrival). On Thursday after Mass Fr D spent some time finishing reading up on various items for the meeting of the Bosco Catholic Education Trust that was to take place in the afternoon. This meeting had what seemed like an enormous number of policies and procedures that needed to be reviewed or adopted. In the event Fr D nearly missed the (Zoom) meeting because he was stuck in to something else at the time; had it not been for an alarmed on his phone/watch he would have completely forgotten he needed to be facing the computer for two and a half hours. On Friday after celebrating Mass Fr D was making sure that he had everything arranged for three of our younger parishioners who missed their First Eucharist in September because of illness or isolation due to Covid. There had been plans for it to take place for them in November but then another lock-down was declared. He is looking forward to celebrating with them at the 10.00 Sunday Mass this weekend . . . .
